Chelsea winger Calum Hudson-Odoi has reportedly agreed to change allegiance and play for the country of his father Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs against Nigeria in March.

The Ghana Football Association on the insistence of the Ghana government are poised to announce the appointment of former Newcastle and Norwich City manager Chris Houghton.

Houghton has been meeting with payers of Ghanaian heritage playing across Europe and one of them is Hudson-Odoi who has represented England at youth level.

As pictured in our featured image, the incoming coach has been speaking with Hudson-Odoi senior.

The change of allegiance according to FIFA takes a minimum of six months to be ratified and it is unlikely that the Bayern Munich target could face the Super Eagles next month.

However following a series of discussions with the player and his father it is understood that once Houghton is confirmed as the new Black Stars head coach, Hudson-Odoi will nonetheless announce his decision to represent Ghana at the senior level.

Brighton and Hoves right back Tariq Lamptey is another player of Ghana origin that the incoming coach is also hoping to convince to play for the west African country.

The switch from England to a different federation in a different continent is made even more stringent because the English FA has other affiliates who need to sign off the papers before a player is cleared by FIFA and it requires time.
