Nigeria’s inflation rate has been on a downward trend for the third consecutive month.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday shows that the headline inflation further dropped to 22.22 per cent in June from 22.97 per cent recorded in May 2025.

On a month-on-month basis, the food inflation rate rose by 1.07 per cent to 3.25 per cent in June 2025 from 2.19 per cent in May 2025.
The NBS CPI report revealed the states with the highest food costs based on their food inflation rate in June 2025.
Below are the 10 states with the highest food inflation, according to the NBS report:
Borno
Borno in North-east Nigeria ranked the highest in food inflation rate in June 2025, with 47.4 per cent year-on-year. It equally recorded the highest in the all-item inflation rates (31.6 per cent YoY). The state has consecutively topped the list.
The state is still reeling from the impact of last year’s flood, which killed dozens of people, displaced over 4,000 residents and disrupted farming activities. There is also renewed attacks by terrorists and bandits, creating a fresh wave of insecurity, which also threatens food production and supply.
Ebonyi
Ebonyi State in the South-east came second in the list of 10 states with the highest food inflation in June, having recorded 30.6 per cent year-on-year. It was 6.9 percent month-on-month. Food staples like grains, meat, and vegetables were the major drivers of high food prices, which significantly contributed to the general inflation rate recorded in the state.
Bayelsa
Bayelsa was the third state with the highest food costs in Nigeria in June 2025, with 28.6 per cent year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, it was 6.3 per cent.
Osun
Osun in the South-west was the fourth in the list with 27.9 per cent food inflation year-on-year. On a month-on-month, it increased by 7 per cent.
Taraba
Taraba in the North-east recorded an annual food inflation rate of 27.4 per cent. The data shows that food prices saw a drop of 4.3 per cent month-on-month in June 2025.
Imo
Imo State posted 26.9 per cent as food inflation year-on-year in June 2025. It rose by 7.4 per cent month-on-month. The South-east state is experiencing inflationary pressure from both food and non-food sources, which may be driven by rising input costs and market volatility.
Zamfara
The north-west state took the seventh place in the list with a 26.2 per cent annual inflation rate in June. On a month-on-month, the food prices rose by 4.89 per cent in the state. The state has also had its fair share of banditry in recent years, which has disrupted farming activities.
Cross River
With 25.7 per cent annual food inflation, Cross River took the eightieth position in the list. Food prices rose by 1.84 per cent month-on-month in the South-South state.
Abia
Abia had a 25.7 per cent annual food inflation rate in June 2025. Food prices rose by 4.32 per cent month-on-month.
Ogun
Ogun recorded 25.4 per cent as annual food inflation in June, with a 2.52 per cent increase month-on-month.
