Amanze Chinonye
The Nigeria Police Force has begun disciplinary proceedings against 151 senior officers over a range of alleged misconduct, as part of efforts to reinforce internal accountability and professional ethics within the force.
The review, which commenced on Monday, July 14, is being conducted by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja. It is scheduled to conclude on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Those summoned include officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement issued, confirmed the development. He described the disciplinary panel as a “critical internal mechanism” responsible for investigating and adjudicating misconduct cases involving senior personnel.
“The Force Disciplinary Committee is an essential structure for upholding integrity within the police system,” the statement read. “It reviews allegations, evaluates evidence, and recommends sanctions based on police laws and internal disciplinary codes.”
Final decisions from the hearings will be submitted to the Police Service Commission (PSC), which holds the authority to enforce disciplinary actions, ranging from warnings to dismissal.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, stressing that the NPF would not hesitate to discipline any officer found guilty of breaching professional standards.
“The Nigeria Police Force will not condone any form of indiscipline or ethical violations. This process reflects our commitment to a service-oriented and law-abiding institution,” the IGP stated.
The police leadership also emphasized that the exercise is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at restoring public confidence, promoting transparency, and building a culture of accountability within the force.
Civil society groups have welcomed the move but are urging the PSC to ensure transparency in the final outcomes. The disciplinary action comes amid renewed public scrutiny of law enforcement conduct and mounting pressure for structural reforms in the country’s policing system.
