Over N378.98bn Added To Stock Market Cap, SMURFIT, Omatek Lead Gainers’ List

About N378.98 billion was added to the market capitalisation of the Nigerian stock market on Wednesday, July 2, with Smart Products Nigeria (SMURFIT) and Omatek driving the growth.

According to data obtained from the Nigerian Group Limited (NGX), the equity capitalisation rose from N75.80 trillion recorded on Tuesday, July 1, to N76.98 trillion.

This followed a 0.49 percent growth or 598.67 basis points gain in the all-share index (ASI), as it appreciated to 120,339.9 ASI from 119,741.23 ASI.

Over 1.04 billion shares were traded in 21,964 deals, valued at 12,17 billion, compared to Tuesday’s 527.07 million shares exchanged in 21,546 deals, valued at N11.27 billion.

Top five gainers

  • SMURFIT’s share price increased by 10 percent, to rise from N0.60 kobo to N0.66 kobo per share.
  • Omatek’s share value grew by 10 percent, from N0.80 kobo to N0.88 kobo per share.
  • International Energy Insurance ended trading at N1.98 kobo per share, from N1.80 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.18 kobo.
  • C&I Leasing gained N0.46 kobo to end trading at N5.06, having opened with N4.60 kobo.
  • Thomas Wyatt’s share value was up by N0.17 kobo, after closing at N1.87 from N1.70 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Deap Capital’s share price depreciated by N0.10 kobo, dwindling from N1.10 kobo to N1 per share.
  • John Holt recorded a N0.40 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N7 after opening with N7.40 kobo per share.
  • Dangote lost N2.50 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N44.50 kobo from N47 per share.
  • Universal Insurance reported a decline of N4.76 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N0.63 kobo to end trading at N0.60 kobo per share.
  • Oando recorded a N2.60 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N52.35 kobo after opening with N54.95 kobo per share.

Top five trading equities

  • Royal Exchange reported that 218.69 million shares valued at N229.10 million were traded on its floor.
  • Japaul Gold recorded 174.08 million shares valued at N473.44 million.
  • Ellah Lakes saw investors trade 83.46 million of its shares valued at N762.22 million.
  • Wema Bank recorded 71.13 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.06 billion.
  • Chams reported 37.57 million shares valued at N87.14 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
