Nigerian Stock Market Cap Extends Decline With N183.30bn Loss

On Tuesday, June 17, the equity capitalisation of the Nigerian stock market dropped to N72.49 trillion, from N72.68 trillion posted on Monday, June 16, indicating a decrease of N183.30 billion.

The 0.30 per cent decline in the equity capitalisation was driven by the 348.61 basis points lost by the all-share index (ASI), as it dropped from 115,258.77 ASI to 114,910.16 ASI.

Stock trading increased marginally on Tuesday after investors exchanged 787.30 million shares, worth N25,66 billion, in 23,170 deals, compared to the 721.75 million shares, valued at N22.01 billion, traded in 22,100 deals the previous day.

Top five gainers

  • Mutual Benefit’s share price increased by N0.10 kobo to rise from N1.00 to N1.10 kobo per share.
  • Learn Africa’s share value grew by N0.38 kobo, from N3.80 kobo to N4.18 kobo per share.
  • C&I Leasing ended trading at N0.42 kobo per share, from N4.20 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.42 kobo.
  • UPL gained N0.49 kobo to end trading at N5.48 kobo, having opened with N4.99 kobo.
  • Deap Capital’s share value was up by 8.64 percent, after closing at N0.88 kobo from N0.81 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Transcorp Power’s share price depreciated by N32.80 kobo, dwindling from N328.50 kobo to N295.70 kobo per share.
  • Oando recorded a N6.45 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N58.25 kobo after opening with N64.70 kobo per share.
  • Ellah Lakes lost N0.47 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N4.29 kobo from N4.76 kobo per share.
  • Omatek reported a decline of 9.33 percent from the previous day’s share price of N0.75 kobo to end trading at N0.68 kobo per share.
  • Custodian recorded a N2.15 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N22.75 kobo after opening with N24.90 kobo per share.

  • Zenith Bank reported that 96.22 million shares valued at N4.24 billion were traded on its floor.
  • GTCO recorded 83.35 million shares valued at N6.24 billion.
  • UBA saw investors trade 65.16 million of its shares valued at N2.11 billion.
  • Access Holdings recorded 64.21 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.30 billion.
  • Ecobank reported 51.73 million shares valued at N1.57 billion exchanged in investors’ hands.
