In Nottingham Forest’s just released squad list for the 2025/2026 season, the former Torino of Italy right back’s name was conspicuously missing meaning he has earned the trust of the coaching crew and could be in line for a new contract.

The club, which qualified for the UEFA Conference League in May 2024 activated a year-contract extension in the contract of the ambidextrous full back.

The 1-year contract expires on June 30 but the club are now set to extend it until the summer of 2026.

The Super Eagles star has been linked with possible moves to Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League, and Galatasaray in the Turkish topflight.

Aina, 28, played in 35 Premier League matches for his club last season – missing just three league games.

Aina’s international teammates, Taiwo Awoniyi, who is recuperating from an abdominal surgery and Dennis Bonaventure Emmanuel were also retained.

Dennis was on loan at Championship side, Blackburn but the option to make the move a permanent one was not chosen by the club.

The short transfer window which was opened on June 1 in a bid to aid clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup ends today, June 10.

However, the duo of Aina and Awoniyi in particular could attract interests from clubs when the window reopens on June 16.

The transfer window will shut for the summer on September 1 at 11pm local time.
