Tinubu’s Reforms Won’t Achieve Success Overnight – Buhari

Immediate past president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with the current administration, stating that the necessary reforms embarked on would achieve success gradually, not overnight.

The president stated this while congratulating his successor, President Bola Tinubu, as he clocks two years in office.

Tinubu took oath of office on 29 May 2023, following his election in February of the same year.

According to a statement signed by Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, the ex-president reminded that leadership is a continuous journey and called for steadfast support for the APC government as it marks its second year in office.

The statement said Buhari expressed his support for the ongoing efforts by Tinubu’s administration to alleviate poverty and curb inflation, which he said have hit the poorest families in the country very hard.

The ex-president, however, stated that the task of reducing poverty and inflation must not be left only for the government and called on private sector stakeholders to play significant roles in that regard.

“The private sector and all of us as citizens must join in all ways we can,” Buhari stated.

He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic and confident about the country’s future.

“Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy,” Buhari added.

“I wish President Tinubu heartfelt congratulations on his two years in office. May you keep leading with wisdom and care.”
