The early signing of the defender ensures that he is eligible to play at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup which begins in June.

The fee for the beanpole defender will be paid in three instalments, with Huijsen’s two former clubs set to receive a slice of the fee – with Italian Serie A giants Juventus due 10% while Malaga are expected to pocket 5% of the total transfer fee.

Huijsen’s medical tests were conducted in London with a five-year deal in place until the summer of 2030. The player is expected to earn an annual salary of €9m.

An official statement from Real Madrid stated thus: “Real Madrid C. F. and AFC Bournemouth have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Dean Huijsen, who is linked to our club for the next five seasons, from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030.

“At the age of 20, Dean Huijsen is already international with Spain and has played in the Italian Serie A with Juventus and Roma, and in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

“Dean Huijsen is nominated for best young player of the Premier League 2024-2025.

Real Madrid were linked with a move for Arsenal centre back William Saliba but it is unclear if the 15-time European champions would reignite an interest in the France international of Cameroon descent after completing the deal for Huijsen.

Huijsen has gained more than 15,000 followers on Instagram within 5 minutes of his Real Madrid announcement on Saturday.

Real Madrid are currently without first team defenders like Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba but are also expected to gun for Benfica’s Antonio Carrecas.

Madrid’s first game of the Club World Cup is on June 18 against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
