Stock Market Cap Up By N341.86bn Despite MRS, Abbey Mortgage’s Shares Declining

On Wednesday, April 23, the Nigerian bourse market capitalisation rose by N341.86 billion, rising from N65.81 trillion on Tuesday, April 22, to N66.15 trillion.

This was on the back of a 0.51 percent appreciation in the all-share index (ASI), which increased by 544.06 basis points to 105,283.67 ASI from 104,739.61 index.

Over 744.8 million shares exchanged investors’ hands in 11,226 deals, worth N18.28 billion, against the previous day’s 353.28 million shares, valued at N7.19 billion, traded in 13,734 deals.

Top five gainers

Associated Bus Company’s share price increased by N0.14 kobo to rise from N1.42 kobo to N1.56 per share.

VFD Group’s share value grew by N1.50 kobo, up from N15.60 kobo to N17.10 kobo per share.

Learn Africa ended trading at N3.56 kobo per share, from N3.25 kobo per share – indicating an increase of N0.31 kobo.

Regal Insurance gained 9.43 percent to end trading at N0.58 kobo, having opened with N0.53 kobo

African Prudential’s share value was up by N1.20 kobo, after closing at N15.10 kobo from N13.90 kobo per share.

Top five losers

Tripple Gee’s share price depreciated by N0.22 kobo, dwindling from N2.20 kobo to N1.98 kobo per share.

MRS recorded a N17.40 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N157.50 kobo after opening with N174.90 kobo per share.

Abbey Mortgage Bank lost N0.97 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N8.79 kobo from N9.76 kobo per share.

John Holt reported a decline of N0.75 kobo from the previous day’s share price of N7.75 kobo to end trading at N7 per share.

Austin Laz recorded a N0.20 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N1.89 kobo after opening with N2.09 per share.

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange

Fidelity Bank reported that 388.76 million shares valued at N7.75 billion were traded on its floor.

GTCO recorded 47 million shares valued at N2.86 billion.

Universal Insurance saw investors trade 41.91 million of its shares valued at N20.97 million.

Access Corporation recorded 30.54 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N705.58 million.

Tantalizer reported 22.94 million shares valued at N52.83 million exchanged in investors’ hands.
