NPFL: Ideye Fires Enyimba Back To Winning Ways As Remo Stars Maintain Lead

Goal bound Brown Ideye ensured a 2-1 win over Pillars

Former Super Eagles star, Brown Ideye, fired Enyimba back to winning ways at the weekend, thanks to  a 2-1 win over visiting Kano Pillars.

Both teams have recorded series of poor results in recent times and in desperate need to return to winning ways. Pillars realised that dream courtesy of a 2-0 win over Lobi Stars heading into the tie against Enyimba.

Enyimba  realised theirs  after Joseph Atule opened scoring in the 35th minute of the match, Brown Ideye increased the tally in the 48th minute.

Interestingly, it was the visitors that dominated possession in the ratio of 56% to Enyimba’s 48%. Pillars mounting pressure, paid off with a consolation goal by Naibe Akpesiri in the 81st minute.

Brown Ideye who joined Enyimba late last year, has netted two goals in seven appearances for the side. He emerged man of the match in the encounter against Pillars, pocketing N150, 000 for his effort.

The result however left both Enyimba and Pillars in the 7th and 9th position on the league table, with 49 and 47 points respectively.

Table toppers, Remo Stars, recorded a lone goal victory over Shooting Stars on Sunday to maintain their position at the top with 65 points in 34 matches.

Rivers United equally ran away with a lone goal victory over visiting Sunshine Stars in Port Harcourt to close the gap with 58 points.

Kastina United and Rangers International recorded the biggest wins of the weekend. Kastina United defeated Abia Warriors 5-1 in Kastina with Bello Lukman grabbing a brace for the homers and Anthony Ijoma getting the consolation goal for the visitors.

Rangers were 4-2 better than Lobi Stars in a match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Saturday.

Oriental derby against Rangers awaits Enyimba in Game Week 35 just as Pillars will welcome Rivers United. Other fixtures to look forward to are Remo Stars, against Niger Tornadoes, Abia Warriors, against Shooting Stars and Akwa United, against Ikorodu City.
