UNILAG Moves To Resolve Radiography Accreditation Crisis

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced that 16,409 students will graduate during its 55th convocation ceremony.

This significant event will take place from January 10 to 17, 2025, and will feature various activities, including a Jumaat service, a convocation lecture, and a thanksgiving service.

Two Students Achieve Perfect CGPA

UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, disclosed that two students from the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science, achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0. The students, Damilare Adebakin and Samuel Badekale, will share the honour of being the overall best-graduating students.

Ogunsola emphasised the exceptional achievement of these students and noted that their success reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

Breakdown of Graduates From UNILAG

Prof. Ogunsola detailed that out of the total number of graduates, 9,684 will receive first degrees and diplomas, while 6,659 will be awarded postgraduate degrees. Additionally, 66 students will graduate from the UNILAG Business School.

Highlighting Key Events

The convocation week will include several significant events, starting with a Jumaat service on January 10. A pivotal moment will be the convocation lecture titled “Universities as Hubs for Development and Wealth Creation,” delivered by Dr. Tayo Aduloju, CEO of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group. This lecture will take place on January 13 at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium.

Former Governor Raji Fashola to Chair Lecture 

The event will be chaired by former Lagos State Governor Raji Fashola, who is known for his innovative reforms. Prof. Ogunsola expressed anticipation for the lecture, highlighting its potential to contribute meaningfully to discussions on funding tertiary education and its role in societal development.

Honouring Eminent Nigerians

During the convocation, three distinguished Nigerians will be conferred honorary Doctor of Science degrees.These include Fola Adeola, co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank; Engr. Kolawole Adesina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group; and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Building

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new School of Postgraduate Studies building, donated by Chief Tunde Fanimokun, will be held on January 13. This project marks another step in the university’s development and expansion.

Award Ceremonies and Closing Events 

The award ceremonies for degrees, diplomas, and certificates will take place from January 14 to 16, with postgraduate awards on January 16. The convocation play “Langbodo” by Wale Ogunyemi will be performed on January 17. The convocation week will conclude with a thanksgiving service at the Chapel of Christ Our Light on January 19.

UNILAG’s 55th convocation promises to be a memorable event, celebrating academic achievements and honouring distinguished personalities. The university community looks forward to the impactful discussions and celebrations that will mark this important occasion.
