Nigeria’s Abdulsalam Makes CAF Referees List For CHAN 2024

Nigerian referee, Kasimu Abdulsalam, has been listed among whistle men that will be on duty at the 8th edition of African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Abdulsalam is part of the 65-man referees squad that have been saddled with the job of officiating in the championship billed for Feb. 1 to Feb. 28 in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya respectively

According to the statement on the CAF official website, Abdulsalam will join 25 other centre referees officiating at the championship.

The list also has 25 assistant referees and 14 Video Assistant Referees (VAR) officials for the tournament.

Abdulsalam distinguished himself in the second leg of the CHAN qualifier between Niger and Cote d’ivoire at the Bamako Stade,  26 Mars on Saturday.

The Zamfara State Referees’ Council member was among the referees who went to the CHAN course preparations exercise in Cairo in late 2024. He was also on the list of match officials invited for the WAFU U-20 qualifiers held earlier in Togo.

Nigeria thrashed Ghana 3-1 in a second-leg final qualifying fixture at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to qualify. The first leg had ended played in Accra had ended goalless.

DR Congo and Morocco have won the tournament which made its debut in 2009,twice each. Other past winners include Tunisia, Libya and Senegal. Nigeria has qualified for the tournament four times posting making the third place finish 2014 and runners up in 2018.

Qualified teams Primebusiness.africa understands, will be seeded based on results in the last 3 editions of CHAN (2022, 2020 and 2018) weighted 3:2:1.  Senegal are reigning champions of the tournament.
