Nigerian  rapper, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, better known by his stage name, Ruggedman, has told overpatrotic and oversympathetic Nigerians hauling stones at Davido for expressing his views on the economy to face reality and stop chasing shadows.

The attack by government personnel and supporters on the musician, for calling a spade by its name according to Ruggedman is unnecessary.

Rather than haul stones on the Afro beat super Star for expressing his opinion, government he said, should be concentrating on fixing the economy to reduce the hardship on Nigerians.

Making his submission via his X handle RUGGEDMAN @RuggedyBaba said “Ok Davido has said what he said, moving forward the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much” he submitted.

Davido had while featuring at the Bid Homies House podcast, in the United States, condemned the way the Federal Government has been running the country’s economy.

“It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts,” Davido said.

Speaking further from experience as someone raised in Nigeria after being born in Atlanta, Georgia, the singer added, “It’s not cool back home…The economy now is in shambles.”

But the comment of the Afrobeat star has generated a lot of reactions with some saying he should join the pretenders club and tell the world that all is well and that there is no cause for alarm.

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and a former Senior Special Assistant on Digital Communication to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, described Davido’s statement as unpatriotic.

“Selling out your country from foreign soil is so disappointing and unpatriotic. Public figures like Davido should know that. They should act and be seen as good ambassadors for Nigeria wherever they find themselves,” Bashir wrote on his X handle.

Show promoter, Paul Okoye, better known as Paul O, on his part is not only angry with Davido’s critics but described them as “mad People.”

According to the music executive, Davido spoke the truth, noting that with global companies leaving and local businesses facing significant losses, the country is clearly facing challenges.

He wrote, “Please make una leave Davido. Mad people, Davido spoke the truth. Nigeria’s current economic state is sooo bad and with global companies leaving the local businesses facing significant losses, it’s clear we’re facing challenges. Let’s acknowledge the reality and work towards a better future. God bless Nigeria.”

Earlier, veteran Nollywood actor and producer Patrick Doyle, had slammed  Davido, for saying Nigeria’s economy is in shambles.

Doyle in his own comment expressed surprise that David whose father owns $2 billion power generation investment is telling visitors not to visit Nigeria.

He said, “You have to be incredibly dense to ask foreigners not to visit a country where your father has a $2 billion dollar power generation investment. Some persons ought to know much better.”
