Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Ondo governorship election, expressed dissatisfaction with the voting process after casting his vote at Polling Unit 004, Apoi Ward 2, Kiribo, in Ese-Odo Local Government Area.
Ajayi voiced concerns about delays in using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and alleged intimidation at polling stations.

Ajayi claimed that he faced challenges during accreditation, which delayed the voting process.
“It took almost 10 minutes before I could cast my vote. This is unacceptable. Such delays appear to be an attempt to frustrate voters,” he said.
The PDP candidate also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of failing to address logistical issues that hindered a smooth election. He alleged that reports of delayed voting in other parts of the state indicated a lack of preparedness.
“The INEC must do better. This is one state, yet they seem incapable of conducting a hitch-free election,” Ajayi remarked.
Concerns Over BVAS Functionality
Ajayi expressed frustration with the BVAS devices used for voter accreditation. He described the process as flawed, stating that the devices were not working properly in some locations.
“The BVAS devices are not working. Although the election is peaceful to some extent, I have serious concerns about the process,” he said.
The candidate emphasised that such technical hitches could disenfranchise many voters, calling for immediate rectification by the authorities.
Allegations of Voter Intimidation
Ajayi also alleged voter intimidation by security personnel stationed close to polling units, describing their presence as unsettling.
“Why are security personnel stationed so close to my polling unit? They are intimidating voters. The distance between voters and military officers is uncomfortably close,” he stated.

He urged INEC and security agencies to ensure that voters exercise their rights without undue pressure or fear.

Ajayi reiterated his commitment to upholding democracy and called on INEC to maintain neutrality in the election process. He urged voters to remain steadfast and exercise patience despite the challenges.
“Our democracy depends on free and fair elections. I call on INEC to ensure that every vote counts,” he said.
Voters Share Mixed Reactions
Voters at the polling unit expressed mixed feelings about the process. While some praised the peaceful atmosphere, others raised concerns similar to Ajayi’s.
A voter, Seyi Oladapo, said, “The process was slow, but at least I was able to cast my vote.” Another voter, Funmi Adetayo, added, “The BVAS issue is frustrating. INEC should have tested the system more thoroughly.”
