The governor, who expressed satisfaction with the election process at his polling unit at the time he voted, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a smooth collation of results across the state.

He said: “People are very interested in this election because it’s a watershed for us in Edo State. I’m not surprised because a lot of young people are here to come and express themselves and fullfill their civic obligation.

“For now, I’m glad with what I see and the election process in my unit has been smooth and efficient but just hope that the collation process will be the same and also peaceful and hope that the results counter will not disrupted.”

Obaseki also commended the presence of security operatives across the state.

Over 2 million registered voters who collected their permanent voter cards in Edo participated in the voting exercise in 4.519 polling units spread across 18 local government areas in the state.

While voting has ended in some areas where the process started early, INEC has extended voting time in places where it started late to allow all eligible voters cast their votes.
