Few hours after Prime Business Africa, a multimedia organisation, exclusively reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had concluded plans to zone the slot for 2023 Presidency to Southern Nigeria and to hold its National Convention in February 2022, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu has confirmed the report. Bagudu disclosed this to State House correspondents a few hours later, after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja as reported by PBA. He said that that the party was truly prepared to hold its convention in February.

The APC Governors forum chairman was in the company of the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman and governor of Yobe State, Mai Malla Buni and the governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru.

Although he came short of mentioning the specifics of the zoning arrangement, his responses confirmed Prime Business Africa’s report on the matter.

The multimedia organisation had, a few hours earlier, hinted that the PGF would be meeting with the President to ratify some of the decisions reached by the APC governors at their meeting in Abuja on Sunday.

The multimedia platform had reported that, barring any last-minute change of plan by the PGF of the ruling APC, the party might officially allow Southern Nigeria to present a candidate to succeed incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

It also reported exclusively that the “Progressive Governors would pick February For APC’s National Convention as they seek President Buhari’s Approval in Abuja this week.”

The PBA report had accurately disclosed the decisions reached by the governors, including the fact that all APC governors agreed to throw their weight behind “flipping of all existing national offices” during the tenure of former substantive National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who is from the South, and his Secretary from the North.

The governors, Prime Business Africa reported, would be meeting with President Buhari as national leader of the party to table their position and secure his approval.

It quoted a source, who was privy to the Abuja meeting of all APC governors led by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, which said that all national positions and offices, as at the time of Oshiomhole, will be swapped between the North and the South, meaning that the North would keep the office of the National Chairman in the proposed arrangement while the South would have the office of the National Secretary.
