Israeli Security Minister Warns Of Imminent Regional War Without Gaza Ceasefire

Gallant Warns of Unstoppable Regional War

Israeli Security Minister, Yoav Gallant, has issued a warning about the potential for a “regional war” involving Hezbollah and Iran if a ceasefire deal in Gaza is not reached soon.

Gallant emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating, “Israel stands at a strategic crossroads. Without an agreement, there is an increasing risk of military escalation, ultimately leading to an unstoppable regional war.”

US Secretary of State’s Involvement

Gallant’s warning coincides with the visit of US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to Israel.

Blinken, who is working to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and secure a hostage exchange, highlighted the critical nature of the ongoing talks.

“The talks are at a critical moment, and both Hamas and Israel must not derail the negotiation efforts,” Blinken said, urging both parties to stay committed to the discussions.

Calls for Full Cabinet Involvement

Gallant has urged Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to involve the entire Israeli cabinet in the discussions surrounding the Gaza ceasefire.

Currently, the deliberations are limited to the war cabinet, which includes Netanyahu, Gallant, Minister Ron Dermer, and Knesset member Aryeh Deri.

However, Gallant stressed the importance of broader involvement, arguing that the implications of the ceasefire deal extend far beyond the conditions for the return of hostages.

“The authority over how negotiations proceed should rest with the full cabinet,” Gallant insisted.

He has reportedly urged Netanyahu on multiple occasions to convene a full cabinet discussion, citing the significant national importance of the issue and the potential consequences of a regional war.

Netanyahu Yet to Respond

Despite Gallant’s repeated requests, Prime Minister Netanyahu has not yet agreed to convene the full cabinet. The current plan is for the full cabinet to approve the final agreement, should one be reached.

Gallant’s calls for broader deliberations reflect his concerns about the potential for an escalating conflict in the region, which could involve major regional players like Hezbollah and Iran.
