After 16 days of showcasing skills, battle of supremacy and quest for medals, the 33rd Olympics, which began 26th July, ends today, Sunday, 11th August, 2024, with a planned breath-taking closing ceremony.

The Paris Olympics featured 32 sports, including the 28 “core” disciplines, that include breaking, skateboarding, surfing and sports climbing.

One of the highlights of today’s final event will be the Marathon, where Sifan Hassan of Team Netherlands, who has won bronze medals in women’s 5000m and 10000m events, will also compete in women’s marathon

The closing ceremony is however not expected until later tonight as there are 11th hour games to be concluded and medals to be claimed before the ultimate au revoir.

This includes Handball final between Germany and Denmark, Water polo final between Serbia and Croatia and women Basketball final between hosts France and USA.

Primebusiness.africa reports that renowned American actor and producer, Thomas Cruise the Hollywood icon, will be carrying the Olympic closing flag to Los Angeles, hosts of the next Olympics in 2028.

Cruise is a recipient of various accolades, including an Honorary Palme d’Or and three Golden Globe Awards, in addition to nominations for four Academy Awards.

His films have reportedly grossed over $5 billion in North America and over $12 billion worldwide. The involvement of the 62-year-film star is expected to add unforgettable moments to the closing ceremony as Los Angeles prepares to take over the baton of the 34th Olympics.
