Anambra State Government has ordered property owners along Amawbia-Agulu-Nanka-Ekwulobia-Uga Road to relocate them as the road dualisation project begins.

The statement said: “Anambra State Government wishes to advise property owners along these routes to begin to relocate them somewhere else to avoid being adversely affected by the road dualisation project.

“The law demands that property along federal highway must be set back by 47.5 meters from center of the road. Anything short of that is a violation of the law and such a property will be regarded and treated as an illegal structure.

“By this notice, Government wishes to minimize avoidable losses on the part of those that could be affected.”

Prime Business Africa reports that Governor Charles Soludo has commenced dualisation of Amawbia-Agulu-Ekwulobia-Uga road after approval was granted by the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC).

The federal road which is currently a single lane that connects Awka, the capital of Anambra State, to Imo State, is in a deplorable condition.

Special adviser to the governor on special projects, Ebuka Nwankwo, said the road project, which will be completed in 12 months from the date the contractors mobilise to site, is expected to reduce the travel time between Owerri and Awka by over 70 per cent.

He said the dualisation of the 34km road will be done jointly by the state and federal government.

According to Nwankwo, the state will construct the first 30km of the proposed dual carriage highway while the federal government will construct the remaining 4km section.

“In order to ensure that this project is completed in 12 months from the time it is commenced, Anambra State Government awarded the contract for the construction of this new road to two major contractors – Geld Construction Limited and A.G. Vision Construction,” Nwankwo further stated.
