Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign striker Mason Greenwood (22), according to The Athletic.

The agreement is reported to be structured around a fee of €31.6 million (€27.6 as a fixed fee with €4 million in bonuses and add-ons), although Greenwood has not yet provided his blessing for the deal to proceed.

Greenwood who spent the season on loan at Getafe last season, had been a target for a number of clubs across Europe, with Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, and Juventus all linked to the forward. Lazio also are thought to have sent in a €20 million bid for the forward in recent days.

The striker has not played for Manchester United since he was arrested in January 2022 and was subsequently charged in October of that year with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges were eventually dropped in 2023 when the Crown Prosecution Service revealed that in light of key witnesses withdrawing their cooperation and new evidence surfacing, “there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.” The player has denied all allegations.

Greenwood while on loan at Getafe made 33 appearances with eight goals to his credit.
