Mixed Reactions As Obama Roots For Biden After Bad Presidential Debate Night

Obama Rallies Behind Biden

Former President Barack Obama, who overcame a challenging debate performance to secure re-election in 2012, publicly backed President Biden after his underwhelming performance in Thursday’s debate against former President Donald J. Trump.

Obama addressed concerns among Democrats about Biden’s candidacy, emphasising the importance of the upcoming election.

“Bad debate nights happen,” Obama said in a social media post. “Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself.”

Obama Draws Parallels to His Own Experience

Obama, who served two terms with Biden as his vice president, compared Biden’s situation to his own in 2012. Back then, he faced criticism for his debate performance against Mitt Romney but managed to turn things around in subsequent debates. Obama’s support aims to reassure Democrats that Biden can also recover and succeed.

“Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November,” Obama added, linking to Biden’s campaign website.

Clinton Joins in Support

Former President Bill Clinton also expressed support for Biden, highlighting the president’s achievements over the past three years. “President Biden has given the United States three years of solid leadership,” Clinton said in a statement on social media.

Public Reaction to Obama’s Post

Obama’s endorsement sparked mixed reactions online. Some users expressed skepticism and criticism, while others showed unwavering support.

Gunther Eagleman tweeted, “Joe is a lying old man. He’s done.” Paul A. Szypula shared, “Barack Obama will continue pulling the strings for Joe. That’s what he’s saying here. Which is ridiculous considering how Joe has clearly fallen apart and isn’t fit to serve.” Clown World™ posted, “He’s a lying career politician.”

In contrast, others expressed gratitude and loyalty. Nurses Against Dick Pics tweeted, “Black women will do what we always do and vote for the common good of our democracy. Thank you, Mr. Obama.” Avantigirl64 commented, “Maybe not, but I always thought the Joe Biden/Michelle Obama ticket would win in a landslide. Not that Kamala isn’t doing a stellar job as VP, because she is.”

Biden Campaign’s Next Steps

In response to the debate fallout, Biden’s campaign is likely to reassess its strategy, taking cues from Obama’s 2012 experience. The team is expected to work on boosting Biden’s debate performance and reinforcing his campaign messages to address the concerns raised by Thursday’s debate.

Obama’s involvement is seen as crucial in this effort, given his influence and experience in turning around a faltering campaign. His message of resilience and focus on the broader stakes of the election aims to galvanize Democratic supporters and mitigate any negative impact from the debate.

As the campaign moves forward, both Biden and his supporters will look to leverage on his endorsement to regain momentum and build a strong case for re-election.
