Nigerian Govt Deploys 530 CNG Buses To 6 States

 

As part of plans to implement the first phase of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), the Nigerian Government has revealed plans to deploy 530 CNG buses in six pioneering states in the country by the end of May.

This was disclosed in a schedule of activities for the launch of the PCNGI implementation programme across the country, posted on the official X handle of the President’s Media Centre on Friday.

“530 buses are set to be deployed by the end of the month in six pioneering states as the full implementation of the @PCNGInitiative kicks off,” It stated.

According to the schedule, the event would be held on different dates between May 15 and 29 across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Some of the event already done that were part of the programme include Southwest Stakeholder event at Lagos incorporating Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States and Presidential virtual commissioning of Critical Gas Supply Projects at NNPCL (May 15).

There was also a stakeholder event for the South-South and South-East held in Port-Harcourt on the 17th of May while on May 18th, there will be a launch of South-South Affiliate Conversion and Refueling Centre at FEMADEC site in Port Harcourt; inspection tour of Total Energies Support Mother Station for Auto CNG in Uyo.

There will aso be a stakeholder session for North-Central and Southwest combined IN Ilorin on May 22.

Between May 24th and 31st, there will be inspection of the Kojo Factory at the Enugu-Onitsha site, among other events.

Other events lined up on May 29 include “Press conference announcing the launch of Conversion Incentive Program, Abuja; Commissioning of Ilorin Refueling and Conversion Center by Chairman Governors Forum.”

The Federal Government had come up with the PCNG Initiative as a cheaper alternative for energy consumption following the removal of petrol subsidy in May 2023 that led to high prices of the commodity.

The Initiative targets the supply of mass transit buses AND tricycles that will use CNG to mitigate the impact of the rising fuel prices on Nigerians.
