Ibrahim Babangida Dies Along Kaduna-Zaria Road 

Nigerian football fraternity was thrown into mourning following the death on Thursday evening of former international Ibrahim Babangida.

The one-time Stationery Stores of Lagos speedster was a member of the Japan 93 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning Golden Eaglets side coached by Fanny Amun.

The former Nigerian international shared same name with former Head-of-State, General Ibrahim Babangida who incidentally was in power when the Golden Eaglets won the cadet World Cup in 1993.

Babangida reportedly died on Thursday in an auto crash at the Kaduna-Zaria highway.

Also in the vehicle was Ibrahim’s brother, Tijani who was a former Super Eagles star and part of the silver-winning Eagles side at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations which Nigeria co-hosted with Ghana.

A part of the Nigerian side at the France 98 World Cup, Tijani also made history as part of the victorious U-23 Olympics Games team.

Tijani however escaped death in the accident and was in the vehicle in company of his wife, son and maid.
