United States To Assist Ukraine With $6bn Military Aid Package

According to two United States sources, the United States is about to unveil one of its biggest military aid packages for Ukraine, valued at up to $6 billion.

To aid Ukraine’s soldiers in their struggle against Russian aggression, this package will contain a variety of weaponry and equipment, including drones, air-to-air missiles, artillery ammunition, and Patriot air defence bombs.

This aid delivery arrives at a crucial moment for Ukraine, which is severely outmatched by Russian forces in terms of both manpower and weaponry. Kyiv’s stockpiles have been reduced by Moscow, which has been firing up to ten artillery rounds for every Ukrainian round. The Russian military industry is creating weapons and ammunition at a startling rate while working at maximum capacity.

The fresh aid package is anticipated to be announced by Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin during a virtual meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, which is composed of more than 50 countries. Following months of stagnant congressional financing, the United States was unable to offer Ukraine substantial military assistance until this meeting.

The United States has also announced a $1 billion drawdown package, which includes Army Tactical Missile Systems, armoured vehicles, artillery rounds, and air defence missiles, in addition to the $6 billion package. The goal of this emergency assistance is to support Ukraine in rebuffing Russian advances and fending off increased missile assaults on vital infrastructure.

The United States is not the only country backing Ukraine. Long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles have also been sent by the United Kingdom, while SCALP missiles have been supplied by France. An official from Czechia attested to the success of a European endeavour to combine resources and purchase artillery shells, with the first shipment of weapons scheduled to reach Ukraine in June.

Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. C.Q. Brown stated that “Ukraine has been able to be effective when they are supplied.” This is demonstrated by Ukraine’s deployment of long-range weapons, like the ATACMS, which enables them to launch attacks far behind Russian defences.
