Liverpool’s Premier League aspirations in manager Jurgen Klopps’ last season in charge of the Reds was dealt a significant blow Wednesday night as Everton defeated them 2-0 at the Goodison Park, reports Prime Business Africa.

The game was the 244th Merseyside derby and the last one for Klopp who announced back in January that he will depart the club this summer.

Liverpool have had to go through a difficult week as they were knocked out of the Europa League by Italian outfit Atalanta.

Liverpool have now lost two of its last three matches in the league while the win was a big boost to Sean Dyche and his players who are battling for survival especially after the points deductions following allegations of breaching the Premier League’s Financial and Profitability rules.

Everton are now right points above the relegation zone and their excitement was reflected by the song that the fans bellowed from the stands: “You lost the league at Goodison Park.”

Everton were hard pressed to get going and put Liverpool in their place but were denied a sixth minute penalty by VAR after an extensive check.

The goal for Everton however arrived in the 27th minute when Jarrad Braithwaite hit a perfect shot following a clumsy defensive clearance that saw the ball squirm part the arms of Allison in goal for Liverpool.

Despite the best efforts of the Reds including two clear cut scoring chances for Mohamed Salah, Everton doubled their lead in the 58th minute of the game through Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
