UNKNOWN gunmen have attacked the palace of HRH Eze Obi Ralph Ekezie, traditional ruler of Obor Autonomous Community has been set ablaze by suspected hoodlums.

The incident which reportedly happened around 4pm on Thursday, caused serious panic among the indigenes and residents of the community as many have deserted the area for fear of the unknown.

Obor community is in Orlu Council Area of Imo State, a neighboring community to Omuma, the hometown of the state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma.

An eyewitness, who spoke to Prime Business Africa in confidence, said aside the monarchs’ palace and properties, two other buildings within the community were also damaged by the hoodlums.

The source said the fire was however later put out through the combined efforts of good-spirited individuals in the community.

When contacted over the Telephone, the monarch who confirmed the incident to Prime Business Africa, expressed shock over the attack.

He said the incident was done with clear intention of an attack on his person, noting that the story could have been worse if he was at home when the arsonists arrived.
The monarch also described those behind the attack as enemies of progress in the community, asserting that gods of the land will not spare them for desecrating his palace.

He further said he was monitoring the development from his Owerri residence, where he had taken abode since the incident.

“The whole incident is still a shock to me. I don’t know the reason for this dastardly act against my person and members of my community. As at this moment, I can’t ascertain the level of damages caused by the attack until I get home possibly tomorrow,” the Monarch stated.

Imo State police spokesman, Michael Abattam, said the command was yet to be briefed on the incident, but promised to give detailed information about the incident later
