Mark your calendars! The 10th Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA 2024) is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of African excellence in filmmaking.

Scheduled to take place from May 10-11, 2024, this milestone edition promises to be a momentous occasion for the continent’s creative industry.

MultiChoice, in collaboration with Africa Magic, has pulled out all the stops to ensure that this event commemorates a decade of brilliance, innovation, and the captivating magic of African storytelling on screen.

Renowned filmmaker, director, producer, and pioneer Academy Director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory, Femi Odugbemi, will once again take the helm as head judge for the prestigious awards.

His return underscores the commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence in recognizing talent across the African film landscape.

Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, expressed her excitement about the upcoming milestone, describing the 10th AMVCA as a testament to the enduring legacy of the awards.

She emphasized how the AMVCA has become synonymous with excellence in the African film industry, serving as a platform that not only celebrates outstanding filmmaking but also fosters talent development and career advancement on the continent.

With submissions pouring in from filmmakers and talent across Africa, the task before the jury and head judge is formidable. Tejumola revealed that this edition will see changes to the award categories, with the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress categories now being determined by the jury. This move reflects a commitment to ensuring fairness and recognizing excellence across all facets of filmmaking.

As anticipation builds, the announcement of the final nominees in each category will be broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels on March 24, at 8 pm. Following this exciting revelation, the voting portal will be opened, inviting audiences from across the continent to participate in selecting their favourites.

The two-day celebration of the 10th AMVCA will kick off on May 10 with the Young Filmmakers and Content Creators event, followed by the Cultural Day and Opening Night celebration.

The highlight of the festivities will be the Main Awards Ceremony on the night of May 11, where the crème de la crème of African cinema will be honoured.

Speaking about the rigorous selection process, Head Judge Femi Odugbemi emphasized the jury’s commitment to upholding the AMVCA’s reputation for excellence. He assured stakeholders that only the most outstanding works would earn a place on the nomination list, ensuring that the final selection truly represents the best of African filmmaking talent.
