Nine-time African champions Nigeria have reached the last round of qualifiers to the 2024 Women’s football tournament of the Olympics following their 1-0 win against Cameroon on Monday evening at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja, Prime Business Africa reports.

Esther Okoronkwo scored the decisive goal for the Super Falcons that ensured they had a 1-0 aggregate win after the goalless draw on Friday.

The goal was struck in the 15th minute of the first half but the Falcons did not make the best of further chances that came their way in the second half.

Jennifer Echegini who assisted Okoronkwo’s goal missed a couple of chances along with Asisat Oshoala, Akudo Ogbonna and Rasheedat Ajibade.

A significant part of the game were the impressive saves made by goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie of Nigeria and Cameroon’s Michaely Bihin.

The Falcons will face South Africa who overcame Tanzania over two legs to advance to the fourth round of qualifiers.

The match is expected to generate enormous interest as the countries’ men’s teams faced-off at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
