NASENI Pledges Overhaul Of Police Assets To Boost National Security
The Executive Vice Chairman /CEO of NASENI, Mr Khalil Suleiman Halilu (R) and the Inspector General of police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun(L) ,when the former paid him a Courtesy visit in his office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja today 2nd February, 2024.

In a move towards enhancing the operational capacity of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has committed to refurbishing and upgrading redundant operational assets.

These assets include vehicles, and helicopters, as well as confiscated and forfeited vehicles.

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, made this commitment during a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters on Friday, February 2, 2024. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Agenda on Security, aiming to improve the overall security situation in the country.

Halilu outlined NASENI’s plans, stating that the agency would mobilize both financial and technical resources to retool, upgrade, and modernize NPF Vehicle Maintenance Workshops nationwide. Additionally, efforts will be directed towards the recovery, repair, and reactivation of non-functional police vehicles.

Highlighting the benefits of this initiative, Halilu emphasized improved security measures and a commitment to climate change action, as NPF vehicles will be converted from petrol and diesel to electric and compressed natural gas (CNG). The project also supports local content efforts by prioritizing the use of locally manufactured materials, creating opportunities for skill acquisition, job creation, and ensuring commercial returns to sustain ongoing maintenance of Police assets.

In response, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Egbetokun, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that the partnership between NASENI and the NPF would significantly impact the operations, security architecture, and overall service delivery of the Police Force. He assured full cooperation from the Nigeria Police Force to provide the necessary support for NASENI to fulfill its mandate.

The pledge signals a collaborative effort towards fortifying the nation’s security infrastructure and underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing critical national issues.
