Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), is poised to unveil Nigeria’s homegrown technologies for rural electrification.

Scheduled to deliver opening remarks and participate in a panel discussion on ‘Advancing Sustainable Rural Electrification through Homegrown Technologies,’ at the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, Halilu aims to emphasize NASENI’s  role in fostering development and adoption of indigenous technologies in Nigeria.

During this anticipated panel session moderated by Al Amin Idris, CEO of Interface Africa, Halilu will join esteemed figures such as Gunther Beger from UNIDO, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, Nigeria, and Miklós Veszprémi, a Climate & Sustainability Expert Consultant at Boston Consulting Group.

Together, they will explore the impact of homegrown innovations on sustainable rural electrification.

Halilu, who took office in September 2023, has demonstrated commitment to promoting sustainable rural electrification through renewable energies.

Under his leadership, NASENI has forged partnerships with government agencies like the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) to ensure affordable renewable energy solutions and modern housing options reach rural communities in Nigeria.

Highlighting these collaborations, NASENI partnered with REA to leverage solar and renewable energy technologies for enhancing electricity supply in rural areas.

Furthermore, in November, an MoU was signed between NASENI and FHFL to champion sustainable building designs for affordable housing nationwide. Halilu emphasized during the MoU signing event, “the Agency’s commitment to reducing building material costs, enabling Nigerians to build and own homes while accessing affordable solar energy solutions.”

This concerted effort aligns with the vision of the Family Homes Funds Limited, a government-owned company represented by the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), aiming to drive accessible and sustainable housing solutions across Nigeria.

With these initiatives, Halilu and NASENI are taking proactive steps to revolutionize rural electrification and housing through indigenous technological advancements, affirming Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development on a global stage.
