The Nigerian government has refute speculations surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s alleged plans to relocate the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Lagos.

In a recent press release, the government addresses the deliberate misinterpretations of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to relocate its Department of Banking Supervision to Lagos and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s directive for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to move its head office back to Lagos.

Addressing the nation, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that there is no truth in the rumors circulating about President Bola Tinubu planning to relocate the Federal Capital back to Lagos.

Onanuga reveals that these rumors, initially surfacing during last year’s electioneering, were sponsored by political opponents seeking to hinder Tinubu’s presidential bid.

He identifies those behind the renewed narrative as dishonest ethnic and regional champions attempting to draw attention to themselves, stressing that the status of Abuja as the Federal Capital is legally established.

Onanuga clarifies that the relocation of FAAN to Lagos is an administrative move, maintaining that the agency will retain a presence in Abuja.

Similarly, the move of the Department of Banking Supervision of the CBN to Lagos is portrayed as a non-controversial decision, considering the concentration of commercial banks’ headquarters in the city.

Highlighting other parastatals not based in Abuja, Onanuga emphasizes the purely administrative nature of these decisions. He urges restraint, asserting that the Tinubu-led administration is committed to justice and equity for every section of the country.

He calls for goodwill and a plea to refrain from rumor-mongering, emphasizing that the administration is dedicated to meeting the aspirations of Nigerians for good governance.
