Netizens Reacts To Toyin Abraham’s Piracy Claim

Renowned filmmaker Toyin Abraham is struggling with the pervasive issue of piracy as her latest film, “Malaika,” has found it’s way into the hands of illegal distributors.  Released in December 2023 alongside other major films like Funke Akindele’s “A Tribe Called Judah” and Mercy Aigbe’s “Ada Omo Daddy,” “Malaika” was set to be a milestone for Abraham.

Despite positive reviews and initial success at the box office, Abraham was confronted with the harsh reality of piracy, jeopardizing her expectations of a surge in fortune.

During a press briefing, Abraham emotionally shared the moment her manager sent her a link, unveiling the unauthorized dissemination of “Malaika” on Telegram channels.

Visibly distressed, she recounted the toll this discovery took on her, leading to uncontrollable tears and panic attacks, ultimately resulting in her hospitalization.

Abraham revealed that she had invested nearly half a billion naira in the project, lamenting the stark absence of anticipated returns.

In her poignant expression, she highlighted the painstaking efforts and financial commitment involved in bringing “Malaika” to life, emphasizing the devastating impact of piracy on both her financial aspirations and the creative endeavor of the entire film team.

However, amidst Abraham’s struggle against piracy, some Nigerians on Twitter, now known as X, are calling her claims hypocritical.
