Mudryk scored an early goal in the 13th mppppppinute for Chelsea when he finished a great move on the stroke of half time, poking home the ball from close range after a good woek by Nicolas Jackson and Malo Gusto.

Eligible Super Eagles star Michael Olise restored parity for the Eagles with a brilliant half volley and it never seemed there would be a winner in the contest.

However Eberechi Eze who elected to play for England and not Nigeria, the home of his parents, brought down another player of Nigerian descent, Chinonso (Noni) Madueke at the edge of the box.

Madueke stepped up himself in the absence of regular Chelsea penalty taker, Palmer, to calmly slot the ball into the net with just a minute left on the clock.

Mauricio Pochettino made five changes to the Chelsea side in the win game with Christopher Nkunku making his first start since joining the club in the summer.

The duo of Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling who were handed their fifth respective yellow cards of the season in the defeat against Wolves sat out this one while Lesley Ugochukwu, the nephew of former Nigeria international, Onyekachi Apam missed the game through a hamstring injury.
