Napoli and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has been crowned 2023 Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Player of the Year, following his outstanding performance in the 2022/2023 season as his goals contributions helped in no small means as Napoli romped to their first Serie title in 33 years.

The award started in 1968 and it is aimed to honour players in the league for their key contributions to their clubs’ campaigns.

Osimhen has now joined the class of players who have won the award, which includes the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Andrea Pirlo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gianluigi Buffon and Rafael Leao.

The Nigerian star scored 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances for Napoli as they stormed to the league title.

Luciano Spalletti, who was in charge of the team was named the coach of the year.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia won the goal of the year for his stunning strike against Atalanta in March.

Osimhen has scored six goals in 10 Serie A matches for Napoli albeit could have arguably scored more but for his injury setbacks.

He was in action in the team’s 3-0 home loss to Inter Milan on Sunday but will be hoping to inspire Napoli to an immediate response when they take on Juventus on Friday.
