In an interview, the CP said that the long arm of the law would always catch up with anyone who commits a crime no matter how far they run.

According to him, the woman “Used hot groundnut oil on the husband, maybe for whatever domestic issue they have. You can run but you cannot hide, so I can assure you that the person has been arrested and is herewith us, and the law will catch up with anybody and do the necessary sanctions because if you do anyhow?…”. The people around replied with “You’ll see anyhow”.

During an interview, Mrs Nweke claimed that she and her husband, Mr Ekelediri Nwokekoro, had a quarrel in which he hit her first and she angrily poured him the hot groundnut oil as an act of self defence.

Mrs Nweke expressed regrets for her actions claiming that she didn’t know the oil would do as much damage as it did to him and if she had known, she would not have carried out such action in the first place.

She said they had been married for more than three years and the police had seized her child after her mother reported the case to them the previous day.

The husband, Mr Nwokekoro from Okehi in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State was covered in blisters but managed to utter a few words.

According to him, “This is the challenge I face this period; it is an accident and I didn’t know it would occur this way.”
