At least six people have died after a Qatari military helicopter went down in the country’s territorial waters, with one individual still unaccounted for as rescue teams continue their search.

The Qatar Interior Ministry confirmed that seven personnel were on board when the aircraft crashed. Six bodies have been recovered so far, while operations are ongoing to locate the remaining missing occupant.

The Qatar Ministry of Defence earlier said the helicopter suffered a technical malfunction during a routine mission, ruling out any external attack or sabotage. Authorities described the crash as the result of mechanical failure while the aircraft was carrying out standard military duties.

Specialised rescue units, including maritime and internal security teams, were immediately deployed to the crash site. Their efforts are focused on recovering the victims and finding the missing crew member, while securing the area for further investigation. Officials have not yet disclosed the identities of those on board, pending notification of relatives.

A formal inquiry into the incident is expected once recovery operations are complete, aiming to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.

Although the crash occurs amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, Qatari authorities have emphasized that there is no indication of a connection to regional security conflicts. Updates are expected as search and rescue efforts progress.
