Ayo Edebiri Wins Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy

Ayo Edebiri, acclaimed for her role in “The Bear,” clinched the Critics Choice Award and the Golden Globe for Best Actress earlier this year. The momentum continued as she secured the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the recent Emmy Awards.

Draped in a stunning custom Louis Vuitton leather dress adorned with a strapless neckline and a full skirt, Edebiri graciously acknowledged her parents, seated in the audience.

In her acceptance speech, she humorously quipped about distancing them due to her rebellious nature, expressing gratitude for their unwavering love that allowed her to embrace her identity proudly.

“This is a show about family and found family and real family, and my parents are here tonight, and I’m making them sit far away from me because I’m a bad kid but thank you,” she shared.

“Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and Black and proud of all of that. I love you so much. Probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and have your daughter go ‘I wanna do improv,’ but you’re real ones.”

Reflecting on her character, Sydney Adamu, in “The Bear,” Edebiri expressed enthusiasm for Sydney’s journey towards self-assurance. She revealed to Deadline, “I love the idea of Sydney finding more confidence and belief in herself, but it’s also fun getting to play someone who’s flawed and kind of a mess.”

Edebiri faced stiff competition in her category, competing against talented actresses like Alex Borstein, Janelle James, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, and Jessica Williams. Notably, her co-stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach also celebrated victories in their respective acting categories, further solidifying “The Bear’s” success at the pinnacle of television recognition.
