ZOOM: Nigerian Communication Experts Set For Post-election Assessment Today

Anchored on the platform of Prime Business Africa (www.primebusiness.africa), Nigeria’s leading  news organisation, a consortium of Nigerian Communication experts, led by United States Emeritus Professor, Charles Okigbo, and Ambassador Aminu Wisdom, will on Saturday, 4th March, at 7-pm (WAT) gather virtually to assess the management and outcomes of the presidential election.

The theme of the Zoom webinar is:  “Assessing the Management and Results of the 2023 Presidential Election Campaign,” and will be moderated by Dr Marcel Mbamalu, the Publisher of Prime Business Africa.

Professor ES Dandaura, who moderated the previous session organised by the experts, called on all well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians to join the  session. Dandaura will present the opening remarks for this Saturday’s virtual conference. 

The conference comes just  as political parties prepare to round off campaigns for the March 11, 2023 governorship and state assembly elections in 28 states. Eight states in Nigeria – Anambra, Kogi, Imo. Ekiti, Osun, Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo – have off-season election cycles. 

Nigeria had on Saturday March 25, 2023, held its Presidential election in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu Bola Ahmed, winner, amid protestations from many Nigerians and opposition political parties, including the Labour Party and its candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

Following the challenges and outcry trailing the exercise, convener of the discourse and United States-based Emeritus Professor at the North Darkota University, Charles Okigbo,  said the series on election campaign management and results are in line with ongoing research projects regarding the character and outcomes of Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, especially as it relates to Communication for Development. 

Nigerian diplomat and Co-chair of the series, Ambassador Aminu Wisdom, who spoke to Prime Business Africa from is base in Canada, said the sustained approach to identifying Nigeria’s communication challenges and solutions is in the spirit of  the members’ patriotic zeal to serve the country and ,make it better.

“This is but a national service,” Ambassador Aminu told our correspondent in a telephone discussion on the subject.

The creme of communication professionals billed to speak at event include: Comrade Chris Isiguzo, National president of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ); Olalekan Fadolapo, Director General, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and Adewale Adeniyi, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, and Vice Chairman of NIPR Council.

 Also to speak at the Zoom event today, Saturday March 4, 2023, are Chido Nwakanma, IABC Nigeria president; Margaret Olele, Corporate Affairs guru and CEO of American Business Council, Nigeria; Bunmi Oke, former president of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) and CEO, Ladybird Advertising Ltd; and Tolulope Olorundero, Public Relations Consultant and Founder, Nigerian Women in Public Relations.

Others are Prof Lai Oso, former President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN); Emmanuel Ajufo, President, Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN); and Prof Abdullahi Bashir, President, African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Nigeria. 

Managing Director and Chief Executive of Beam Media, Mr Omo Kingsley Abuneme, will be speaking in behalf of the OAAN President.

This will be the second in a series to be organised by  the Communication experts on the media platform of Prime Business Africa (PBA), an independent news organisation focusing on socio-economic and development issues in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
