Every weekend across the football leagues in the world certain players and teams are expected to break a record or attain the feats achieved by others

 

Today, Prime Business Africa’s Senior Correspondent IZUCHUKWU OKOSI presents the five records that stood out in some of the matches played this past weekend.

 

1. Zlatan Joins The 300 Club

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a landmark goal for Serie A leaders AC Milan in their 1-1 draw against Udinese.

The Swedish striker thus joined an elite team of strikers who have struck 300 gold in Europe’s top five leagues.

 

Udinese were on the verge of a shock win after taking the lead through a breakaway goal from Portuguese forward Beto.

 

2. Samuel Chukwueze Is A Centurion

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze reached a milestone for  in his club career as he played his 100th club football for La Liga side Villarreal over the weekend.

Chukwueze came off the substitute bench in the 62nd minute in place of Yeremi Pino to achieve this major success in the colors of the Yellow Submarine.

 

3. Ralf Rangnick Attains League Record After 118 Years

 

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick who will be in charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season led United to a second successive victory in his managerial role.

Rangnick is now the second United manager to register a clean sheet in his first two league games in charge of the club after Ernest Mangnall in 1903 after United’s 1-0 win over bottom side Norwich City.

 

4. CR7 Becomes Creates Another Goal Scoring Record

 

Cristiano Ronaldo’s second-half penalty was enough to give Manchester United a 1-0 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

 

It was new interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s second league game in charge since taking over.

 

The Portuguese has become the third player to score for three different United managers (Solskjaer, Carrick, Rangnick) in a single season after James Hanson and Joe Spence both did so in 1926-27 (Chapman, Hilditch, Bamlett).

5. Mbappe Scores 99th,100th Ligue 1 Goals

 

Kylian Mbappe reached a century of Ligue 1 goals for Paris Saint-Germain with a brace in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over his old club Monaco at the Parc des Princes.

 

Mbappe opened the scoring with an early penalty and then grabbed a second just before half-time after being set up by Lionel Messi to get his 100th goal in France’s top flight since moving to PSG in 2017.

 

The France striker, who also scored 16 league goals for Monaco at the beginning of his career, does not turn 23 until later this month.
