Zambia Pips Unlucky Super Falcons In WAFCON Third Place Final

July 22, 2022

Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Friday night failed to redeem some battered pride as they were defeated 1-0 by Zambia in the third place final of the 2022 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco reports Prime Business Africa.

A 29th minute goal from a rasping shot credited to Evarine Katongo despite deflecting off Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie from 25 yards was the difference between both teams.

The Falcons who were edged by hosts Morocco 5-4 on penalties in the semifinals started brightly before inadvertently conceding the unlucky goal.

More goal attempts especially in the second half proved hard to restore parity with Gift Monday responsible for missing two sitters.

The Falcons will hope to execute some important friendlies with countries they could face at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand when the women’s international window comes up in September 2022.
