“We understand the inconveniences caused over the past few days,” Achimugu stated, addressing the difficulties faced by passengers due to flight disruptions.

Speaking on the agency’s stance, Achimugu highlighted the necessity for airlines to promptly update passengers on any flight disruptions. This transparency aims to empower travelers to make well-informed decisions regarding their travel plans amidst the ongoing challenges.

In a press statement titled “NCAA Empathizes with Passengers over Flight Delays and Cancellations,” the aviation authority underscored its awareness of the widespread flight delays during the bustling holiday season.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is aware of flight disruptions which have inconvenienced air passengers in the last couple of days and empathize with all affected passengers for the inconveniences these disruptions may have caused,” the statement from the NCAA read.

Furthermore, the agency mandated all airlines to furnish timely information to passengers affected by flight disruptions.

This directive aligns with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 Part 19, emphasizing the provision of care, refreshments, and alternative measures to mitigate inconveniences faced by passengers.

Notably, flight delays and cancellations, particularly during peak holiday seasons, have been a recurring issue in Nigeria. These disruptions not only inconvenience travelers but also carry significant economic implications for both the country and its citizens.

Passengers affected by these disruptions often find themselves burdened with additional expenses, including accommodation and transportation costs. Many, like Simeon, have been compelled to swiftly seek alternative flights, often incurring extra expenses due to sudden cancellations.

Moreover, the prolonged process of seeking compensation for canceled flights adds to the challenges faced by passengers, who frequently encounter delays or lack of refunds.

The NCAA’s directive aims to ensure better passenger care and adherence to regulations, offering a glimmer of hope for travelers grappling with the disruptions in the nation’s air travel landscape.
