Yabatech Graduates 7,717 Students At 35th Convocation

Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) is set to celebrate its 35th Convocation Ceremonies from November 17 to November 23, 2023, marking the graduation of a  total of 7,717 students.

The pre-convocation address was delivered by the Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem A. Abdul expressed his delight and highlighted the significance of this day in the institution’s history during a press conference held on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

Abdul, addressing the press, emphasized the immense academic journey undertaken by the graduating students, acknowledging the rigorous academic challenges they had overcome. He expressed that such a milestone deserved a robust celebration, marking the formative period of these students’ lives.

The convocation ceremonies will include the conferment of Diplomas, Certificates, and Prizes upon the graduating students from the 2021/2022 academic session.

The 35th Convocation Ceremonies on Tuesday 21 November will have the presence of  Rt. Hon. Olufemi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, was the Guest Speaker, to give the convocation lecture. While Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio will preside as Chairman of the Day.

Additionally, distinguished Nigerians will be honored with the fellowship of the College for their exceptional contributions to various sectors, aligning with the tradition and mandate of polytechnic education.

The convocation schedule includes various events such as religious services, a convocation lecture themed “Empowering Nigerian Youths in the Present Day Economy,” and a Fellows’ Night.

The pinnacle of the ceremonies will be the Convocation Ceremony slated for Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Philip Adegbile Sports Complex, beginning at 10:00 am.

During the ceremony, three ‘outstanding” Nigerians, Lady Christine Doja Otedola, Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu, and His Excellency, Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum will be honored with fellowship awards for their contributions to national development and education.

Abdul detailed the achievements and contributions of the awardees. Lady Christine Doja Otedola, an exemplary public servant and philanthropist, was praised for her dedication to excellence and her role in the establishment of Yabatech in Odoragushin town of Epe.

Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu, an alumnus of Yabatech and a trade unionist, was lauded for his relentless commitment to workers’ rights and the Nigerian labor movement.

Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, a seasoned administrator turned politician, was acknowledged for his contributions to education and governance, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration to Nigerian youths.

Abdul concluded by expressing gratitude for the press’s attention and urged for continued support in covering the College’s activities.

In his words, he remarked, “This convocation marks a significant achievement for our students and the institution. We’re immensely proud of their accomplishments and look forward to celebrating their success.”
