World Athletics Championship: Ogun Governor Congratulates ‘Daughter’ Amusan For Golden Feat

 

The Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has congratulated rave of the moment, Tobilola Amusan who in the early hours of Monday morning won gold medal in the 100m Hurdles of the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA.

Amusan made Nigeria proud by becoming the flrst athlete from the country to win gold at the World Championship in its 40-year history.

Amusan broke into tears standing on the ceremony podium while the Nigerian national anthem was played – one that is primed to become one of the iconic images of the competition.

In his congratulatory message to the athlete who broke two world records in the semifinals and final – albeit the latter was not officially approved due to tailwind – Ogun State Governor Abiodun was evidently proud of the feat achieved by an indigene of the Egba land.

“We congratulate and rejoice with a proud daughter of Ogun state, whom I adopted some months back to support her career, Ms Tobi Amusan on her world record breaking (12.06s)gold victory in Women’s 100M Hurdles.

“As a State, we are proud of your success and wish you more greater heights in the years ahead.”

Ese Brume won Silver in the Long jump event. Brume hails from Delta State.

Izuchukwu Okosi

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc. He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line. Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
