Wike Rewards NPFL-winning Rivers United Players, Officals With N576m

New League champions to get double the amount if they qualify for CAF Champions League group stage

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has rewarded players and officials of Rivers United with cash prizes for their title triumph as champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2021/2022 season reports Prime Business Africa.

Rivers United’s success is historic as they lifted the trophy for the first time in their history.

The club finished their sterling all-round season with 77 points and a plus 34 goal aggregate, 10 points adrift of the second placed Plateau United.

While hosting the team at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Wike announced a reward of N12million ($20,000) each for the 34 players and 14 officials

The officials include: Chairman, two secretaries, Eight technical crew members, Media officer, Kit manager and the Videographer.

The Governor also awarded the prestigious ‘Medal Service Award’ to the players and officials.

The team were also promised that their pre season training ahead of the next football will be held in Madrid for two weeks.

Wike also promised United double of the amount they were gifted if they make the group stage of the CAF Champions league.

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc.

Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line.

Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
