Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc., Dr Herbert Wigwe.

The untimely death of Wigwe alongside his wife, son and former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, in a helicopter accident on Friday, 9 February 2024, has thrown the entire country and the global business community into mourning.

A message on his official X handle on Sunday, Governor Otti said since news about the incident broke, he found it difficult to believe until after series of confirmation.

He said Wigwe was not just a close friend but a brother whose ideas and constant encouragement had helped in many decisions he had taken.

“This death is too big a blow to me personally and all those that knew you closely,” Otti said.

“You were not only my friend but my brother. Your constant encouragement and sometimes insistence have been very helpful in a lot of decisions one took.”

Otti said that Wigwe was one of those who encouraged him to run for office of governor in Abia and had since then been consistent in supporting him.

The governor reminsced about ideas and dreams Wigwe had shared with him and wondered how they would be achieved.

“This is one of the saddest moments in my life. To worsen the situation, Chizoba and Chizzy who hardly fly with you were in that chopper.

“I’m still trying to make sense of the whole situation. I wish someone would wake me up and reassure me that this was a bad dream! But alas it is real,” Otti lamented.
