Who wins Season 9 of Nigerian Idol this Sunday? That is the question on the minds of lovers and followers of the Nigerian Idol musical talent show.

The Season 9 of the show comes to a close on Sunday July 14 and die-hard lovers are holding the breath. Africa Magic hosts of the show announced Friday that voting is closed and that all eyes is now on who emerges winner on Sunday.

Nigerian Idol is the local version of the Idol series franchise. The show started with its first season in 2010, the 50th anniversary of the country with the tagline Live Your Dream. Accept No Limitation.

Auditions were open for every Nigerian between 18 and 28. The first season went on air in October 2010 and is shown on 15 different channels all across Africa.

On March 27, 2011, 26-year-old Onyekachi Elizabeth Gilbert Onwuka aka “yeka onka” from Ohafia was announced the first Nigerian Idol ever over fellow competitor Naomi Ebiama. Onyekachi was awarded the sum of 7.5 Million Naira, a recording contract with Sony, a car and an all-expense-paid trip to South Africa.

Seven other winners have since emerged from the show carting away mouthwatering largesse and eye-popping recording contracts. Past winners are Mercy Chinwo, Moses Obi Adigwe, Evelle, K-Peace, Kingdom Kroseide, Progress and Victory Gbakara.

Bigger Largesse Awaits Winner Of  Nigerian Idol Season 9

Prime Business Africa  notes that there  has been an improvement in the largesse given to the eventual winner perhaps in line with challenging economy and realities of time. From N7.5 Million won by the maiden winner in 2010,Victory Gbakara who emerged champion of season 8,of the  singing competition after eight weeks of intense battle, received the grand prize of N100 million, which includes N35 million in cash, a music record deal and a video shoot opportunity.

The Nigerian Idol season 9, has been filled with raw emotion, incredible talent, and show-stopping performances. It started with 10 dreamers, now there are only three standing viz Chima, Chioma and Lammy ,and in a matter of hours life changing announcement will be made and one of this last three will move highly up the ladder of life, who will that be?
