The US military has launched strikes targeting multiple locations believed to be used by Islamic State fighters, including command centers, weapons depots, and logistical routes in eastern Syria. The operations were carried out using a combination of air power and precision-guided munitions, aiming to limit civilian casualties while degrading the group’s ability to plan further attacks.

The attack that prompted the response occurred earlier this week, when American personnel operating in the region came under fire, resulting in the deaths of three US service members and injuries to several others. Trump stressed that his administration would not hesitate to act when American lives are lost, warning that those who target US forces would face swift and decisive consequences.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized that this is “not the beginning of a war — it is a declaration of vengeance”. The US has informed regional partners ahead of the operation, and coordination remains critical to maintaining pressure on extremist networks and promoting long-term stability in the region.
