Uzodimma Inaugurates Imo State Boundary Committee, Urges Peaceful Resolution Of Disputes

July 23, 2025

Governor Hope Uzodimma has inaugurated the newly constituted Imo State Boundary Committee, calling on its members to prioritize the peaceful and equitable resolution of all boundary-related disputes within the state.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Government House in Owerri, saw the swearing-in of 15 members of the committee, which is expected to handle both inter and intra-state boundary issues. The committee will play a critical role in addressing long-standing land demarcation disputes that have strained relationships between communities and local government areas.

Governor Uzodimma underscored the importance of the committee’s mandate, noting that unresolved boundary conflicts often impede development, threaten peace, and disrupt community cohesion.

“Effective boundary management is fundamental to good governance, resource allocation, and social harmony,” the governor said. “I urge you to carry out your responsibilities with diligence, impartiality, and transparency. Fair and proactive engagement is key to ensuring peaceful coexistence and accelerating socio-economic growth across Imo State.”

He also emphasized that a stable boundary framework would contribute to sustainable development and reduce the incidence of inter-communal clashes, especially in border communities.

She assured the governor and citizens of Imo State that the committee would discharge its duties with fairness, transparency, and a deep commitment to justice.

“We understand the sensitivity of this assignment,” Ekomaru said. “We will be guided by principles of equity and rule of law to ensure that every boundary dispute is resolved objectively and in the interest of peace.”

The Imo State Boundary Committee is expected to work closely with the National Boundary Commission and relevant local government authorities to mediate disputes, demarcate boundaries, and implement lasting solutions to boundary-related tensions in the state.
