Utomi Urges Collaboration Among Catholics In Politics, Business To Advance Common Good

Chairman of the Association of Catholics in politics and Captains of Industry, Prof Pat Utomi has commended the chairman of Catholic Action, Sir Peter Agbontaen for convening the first general assembly of Catholics in business and politics, and Catholic Agora, which begins in Abuja later in January 2022.

Utomi who is the founder of Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL), enjoined Catholics who are politicians and business leaders to make conscious effort to attend and participate in the General Assembly, adding that the goal is to use the social doctrine of the Catholic Church to focus on the common good.

He disclosed that the event which is a gathering of politicians and business men and women will involve presentations by a high-powered panel and a keynote to be delivered by Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, and also celebrate the retired Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onayekan.

The professor of Political Economy, Utomi who is also chairman of the NCFront and Leader of the Shadow Cabinet of a coalition of political parties and civil society noted that it will be profitable for networking and learning on how to improve the country, their Faith and the economy,

He further stated that the gathering would advance the prospects for progress and peace in Nigeria.

Catholic Action is an organised movement within the Catholic Church formed by Pope Pius X in December, 1903 which seeks to deepen Christian faith in the society by promoting the social teachings of the church through collaboration between the lay faithful and the church hierarchy.

Part of the goal of the Catholic Action Nigeria is to focus on young people who are moulded into active political participation guided by the teaching of the Church, and also to raise virtuous leaders guided by the fear of God, love for humanity, and selfless service to the nation.
