UTME Errors: JAMB Registrar Should Be Forgiven – Shehu Sani

May 15, 2025

Former lawmaker and human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has called on Nigerians to forgive the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, over the technical error that occurred, which affected the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

Sani’s call comes as many have called on the JAMB registrar to resign or the government should sack him.

Prime Business Africa had reported that the Oloyede had, during a press conference on Wednesday, admitted there was a technical error which affected the results of 379,997 candidates in the five states of the South-east and Lagos.

He took responsibility for the error, apoligised to the affected candidate and announced that they will resit for the examination starting from Friday, May 16 to 18, 2025.

However, many Nigerians have taken to social media calling for his resignation, asserting that the candidates who participated in the 2025 UTME have been subjected to unjustified difficulties and trauma, with a 19-year-old girl in Lagos reportedly committing suicide after she was said to have seen a low score awarded to her in JAMB.

Popular human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, called on the Federal Government to sack the JAMB registrar. Sowore also called on the Nigerian government to scrap the Board, claiming that it has outlived its relevance.

However, in a post via his official X handle, Sani said no human being or technology is beyond error.

The former Kaduna Central senator stated that since the JAMB boss admitted errors, sought forgiveness, and promised to rectify the problem and improve, he should be forgiven.

“No human being or no technology is beyond error. The JAMB Boss, Professor Ishaq, has admitted errors and sought forgiveness and promised rectification. He should be forgiven and given the chance to redeem his agency,” Sani stated.

“It is better than being arrogant, recalcitrant, or looking for scapegoats. He made mistakes but was humble enough to admit it,” he added.

Sani further called on the affected persons to sheathe their swords.”
